Death of (an Ice Cream) Salesman

June 27, 2008 / by tomegu

It's a summer evening in Korea. It's almost 7pm and its around 85 degrees. And yes it's humid, but not summer in North Carolina humid. From inside my apartment I hear the ringing of a bell down on the streets. But I haven't run down the stairs to go buy an armload of cold refreshing ice cream. Why? Becuase this is Korea. The old blue truck that is cruising around the neighborhood isn't full of ice cream. I made this mistake several weeks ago. I was planning to relieve myself with a chocolate covered vanilla popsicles but when I got to the truck with money in hand all there was to buy was sun dried squid and jelly fish, a couple of boxes of tomatos and some earth tone socks made in China. But I have to say, the socks tasted better than I expected.
