April Madness

March Madness is over is supposed to be over, but it's not for me. I'm still mad. Really, confused might be a better word. I can't at all figure out what happened to the Tarheels. But all in all I really shouldn't complain too much beacuse I got to watch a lot more of their games this year than I did last year. Last year I spent hours and hours searching and even more money than I wanted to and I still was able to watch only a handfull of UNC basketball games. This year though I found a couple of websites that gave me access to nearly all of the games. And CBS had every NCAA tournament game online and on demand all for free.

I'm spendig most of April trying to get my sleep schedule back on track. First with the ACC tournament and then the NCAA I spent many of my sleeping hours in front of a computer watching basketball. There were a few days when I came home from work and went straight to bed, only to get up around 1 or 2 am to head to the computer. I know I said the NCAA games were on demand so I could watch them online whenever I wanted but if you have a chance to see the games live is there any other choice. The situation was not without precedence though. The 2002 World Cup was held in Korea and Japan so the game times were also during sleeping hours for me as I was living in the US at the time. One major difference though was that the World Cup was during the summer when I was on vacation. Trying to watch all or nearly all of the NCAA games was much more challenging when I had to be at work by 8:30. And some of the games were on while I was at work. CBS thought ahead on that one though. There was a button on the screen that you could click while watching a game called a "boss button." If your boss walked in your office or your classroom when you were in the middle of a game, you could click this button and the sound would instantly stop while the screen flashed to a series of bar graphs an pie charts that gave the impression you were working instead of wasting work time. But I had a back up plan anyway. If I were to get caught watching basketball, I was going to explain that I was setting up a lesson on sports where the kids would learn English from watching a basketball game.

Anyway life is back to normal. Well as normal as life can be for an American in South Korea.
